Recommendations to Build Your Holiday Music Collection

Cee Lo Holiday Album

I am a BIG fan of Christmas music, having amassed somewhere around 300 songs over the last 20 years.  It all started when my family used to purchase the “Sounds of the Season” Album at Target each year (question: Do they make that anymore?)  I loved seeing which mix of artists would be on the compilation.

After years and years of listening to Christmas Music, I’d like to share some of my favorite non-traditional songs (read: non-carols) for you to add to your collection.

Top 10 MUST-HAVES for any Holiday Music Collection:

  1. All I Want for Christmas is You – Mariah Carey
  2. Do They Know It’s Christmas? – Band-aid
  3. The Magic of Christmas Day – Celine Dion
  4. Step Into Christmas – Elton John
  5. Where Are You Christmas – Faith Hill
  6. Love on Layaway – Gloria Estefan
  7. Our Love is Like a Holiday – Michael Bolton
  8. Wonderful Christmastime- Paul McCartney
  9. Last Christmas – Wham!
  10. My Only Wish – Britney Spears

Best of the 2012 Holiday Releases:

  1. What Christmas Means to Me – Cee Lo Green
  2. All I Need is Love – Cee Lo Green
  3. Mittens – Carly Rae Jeppesen
  4. Something in the Air – Grayson Sanders & Jono
  5. Shake Up Christmas – Train
  6. Joy to the World – Train
  7. Heaven Everywhere – Francesca Battistelli
  8. Christmas Is – Francesca Battistelli

I’d love to hear some of your faves in return!  Happy listening!

My favorite Christmas song is Baby It’s Cold Outside. I love most versions of it. The original is nice, but my favorite is the Zooey Deschanel version.

What! No Justin Bieber Christmas songs off his CD? Our favorite on there is the Little Drummer boy song.

I will give him greater consideration for next year! :)

Hi Sarah,
I happen to be a classic Christmas music lover so it’s all Burl Ives and Frank Sinatra for me. Bob Dylan is nice too. Anyhow, Justin found this great new album you might enjoy. The Shins cover of Wonderful Christmastime is just amazing. The album is called Holidays Rule. Look it up!

I like so many, but here’s a small sampling of my favorites:
Cool Yule – Louis Armstrong
Angels From The Realms of Glory – Annie Lennox
The Christmas Song – Paul McCartney (from that Holidays Rule album)
Christmas Wrapping – The Waitresses
Auld Lang Syne – Pink Martini
Wish List – Neon Trees
One Christmas Catalogue – Captain Sensible
