Foreign Service Life

We just got the news – Novakistan is officially moving capitals come spring 2012!  We will be there for 2 years after Nick completes language classes in DC.  He’s also excited to try a new role as Political Officer there.  As for me, I’m pumped about Machu Picchu, the food, keeping our help and all the kind people I’ve heard about.  Pretty sure it’s going to be an amazing fit for us!  YAHOO!

  5. John says:

Wow, cool! Lima, Peru, you’ve been getting to a lot of countries starting with P, next stop would be Paraguay, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan??? hehehe. Thought that would be next year already, you get your next posting a year in advance???

  6. Jill says:

Congrats congrats! Very exciting news indeed!!

  7. Diplowife says:

Wow Peru! I’m sure it’ll be great. But when will you be leaving Manila? I hope you’re still there when I go home to visit early next year. If not, I hope to meet you one day. Until then I will remain a loyal follower of Novakistan!

  8. sarahlynn60 says:

I know John, it’s a bit confusing. We usually would go immediately after, but Nick has to go to language classes in DC first because he doesn’t know spanish!

  9. sarahlynn60 says:

Thank you Diplowife! We’ll be here until July 1st of 2011, so plenty of time to still meet up!

  10. bfiles says:

  15. sarahlynn60 says:

I know Katie- we’re pretty excited. Do you and Brendan have Peru on your ‘must visit’ list?

  16. Joyce says:

Embassy Lima is where I met your wonderful husband’s dad. It was my second Foreign Service posting but only stayed 6 months as got married and moved to Embassy Kinshasa (now the Congo). Whoa! Lima is not like Philippines but you will find people very lively and fun loving. Congrats again!!! Mother-in-Law

  17. sarahlynn60 says:

I look forward to hearing all your stories about Lima! I think it’ll be a cool connection that we share!

  18. naomi says:

    congrats! sounds amazingly wonderful!

  19. Sara says:

    Awesome! Peru sounds amazing.

  20. Sara Roy says:

When you say keep your help, does that mean your helper is going with you, or you’re able to hire help in Lima?

  21. Caroline says:

So I’m late to the party, but congrats! What a fun place! My friend from work recently returned to the states after nearly 2 years in Lima. His wife is from there, and they moved down after they were married to sort out her visa situation. You should check out his blog: It’s got lots of little tidbits that he learned about living in Peru. One thing I learned: buses are crazy, and you will not get change. Nor are the prices ever consistent. Also, I hear steak in nearby Argentina is astounding. Anyway, I can’t wait to hear how you soak up Manila as you finish there and about the transition to Peru!

  22. sarahlynn60 says:

Thanks for the link Caroline – I’ll definitely check it out!

  23. sarahlynn60 says:

I don’t think we could ever convince Norma to go with us, no matter how hard we tried. She’s very connected to her family here…

  24. Bethany says:

    Hey Chica,
I just now saw where you guys are going to next (okay we only met a few weeks ago but still ;-) Anyways, Will and I LOVED Peru. It was crazy, it was beautiful, I wish we could have been there longer. There’s some crazy posts on my blog listed in 2006 from when we were there. Altitude sickness, cocoa leaves, crazy taxis…it’s all there in Peru. So excited you guys are going there!
