Baby Novak at 9 Weeks: Our Little Gummy Bear

If you remember back just 3 short weeks ago, Baby Novak was a 1/4 inch, lentil-sized blob with a little flicker of a heartbeat in the middle.  Fast forward 3 weeks and we’ve got a 1 inch, grape-sized gummy bear, complete with arms and legs (and what we think is an above-average size head!)

My bed rest and progesterone supplements seemed to have paid off, as baby Novak’s heart rate had gone from 117 bpm to 188 bpm, which is well within the normal range.  Baby Novak also must be picking up on Mom’s squirrely-ness, as we could see his or her hands and feet moving around on the monitor.  The Doctor said he/she was very active for only 9 weeks along – not sure if that’s going to be a good thing or not!  :)

Can I just tell you how thankful I am for Ultrasounds?  This whole crazy experience starts to feel more real when you see your baby’s arm moving around on the monitor.  And just like that, all of the earlier resentment and anger starts to melt away . . .Cuz really, who can be angry at such an adorable-looking gummy bear?
